Leaf Cutter Ants

The leaf cutter ants in this video are carrying leaf pieces back to the fungus garden in their colony.  The ants harvest leaves in order to grow a fungus which is eaten by the ant larvae.

The relationship between the fungus and the ant is an example of mutualism.  The ant benefits by being able to grow food for their offspring, and the fungus benefits because the ants feed the fungus and keep it free of mold and other pests.
